Historical outline and dendrological analysis of palace complex Podzamcze in Bychawa

Abstract:

One of the most interesting monuments of the Bychawa region included on the list of monuments Lublin province – belongs a palace complex Podzamcze in Bychawa, with the ruins of the castle, a wooden manor house and outbuildings. The construction of the castle began Mikołaj Pilecki Leliwa in 1539. The castle was situated on a peninsula surrounded on three sides by ponds, cut off from the mainland by a moat and connected with bailey drawbridge. Bychawa often changed their owners and they were: family Myszkowskich, Andrzej Leopold Ossowski, Dominik Stoiński, Karol Scipio del Campo, or family Łaniewskich. In the nineteenth century, surrounding the palace occupied by lombardy poplars, cypresses and thuja. Between the palace and the pond were terraced Italian gardens and in the rest of the land stretched park type landscape along the roads led rows and avenues of trees. The palace was abandoned after a fire that occurred in the 80s nineteenth century. Today is a picturesque ruin, but not without historical value. Stand park is represented by 21 species, and the largest number of copies belongs to the species Acer platanoides L. (89 pcs.), Fraxinus excelsior L. (80), Tilia cordata Mill. (54) and Populus alba L. (38). Among the shrubs are the most numerous group of shrubs of the species: Sambucus nigra L., Cornus mas L., Salix purpurea L. and Corylus avellena L. Restoration project object should aim to improve the aesthetic area of ​​exposure of the castle hill to the restoration of worn off-axis viewing, underscores cultural and didactic function space and creating for the people of friendly and available space recreation.
