FOREST SUCCESSION AND AFFORESTATION OF AGRICULTURAL LAND AS A CURRENT CHALLENGE AGRICULTURAL WORKS
Keywords: secondary succession, arrangement and agricultural works, consolidation
Exclusion of land from agricultural production is conditioned by many factors – both natural conditions (soil quality, distance from larger forest complexes) and non-natural areas – structure of agricultural plots, their size and shape, change of demographic structure of rural residents (migration to cities, non-agricultural activities business). Land excluded from agricultural production is subject to secondary succession, which affects (unfavorably) adjacent land still used for agriculture.
It is important to recognize the reasons for excluding lands from agricultural production and to inventory such areas as part of the farm-arrangement programs preceding the consolidation and exchange of lands. It allows for proper control over the development of rural areas and improvement of the spatial structure of farms.
The implementation of the consolidation works enables rational management of agricultural land – it will be possible to identify areas that for various reasons excluded from agricultural production can form „buffers” between forest complexes and agricultural land.
