PERFORMANCE TEST OF AN AIR LIFT PUMP WITH A PERFORATED RUBBER DIAPHRAGM AIR INJECTOR

The paper presents an analysis of the results of the air lift pump that has pumped water Qw or a mixture of water with sand Qw + Qs. The range of research included performance and efficiency characteristics determination of air lift pump with internal diameter of the discharge pipe d = 0.04 m equipped with a PM 50 air injector with perforated rubber diaphragm. The tests were carried out for three heads of water level and a mixture of water with sand H: 0.40, 0.80, 1.20 m, with a steady length of discharge pipe submergence h = 0.80 m. As a result it was found that the water flow Qw and mixture of water Qw with sand Qs flow increased with airflow Qp reaching maximum and then decreasing. On the other hand, with the increase of head of water or the mixture of water with sand H, the flow of water Qw and the mixture of water Qw with sand Qs decreased. It has been shown that the air flow in this type of installation during the discharge of the water can not be less than 5,0 m3 · h–1 and should not exceed 16,0 m3 · h–1. During the discharge of the mixture of water with sand, air flow also can not be less than 9.80 m3 · h–1 and should not exceed 17.0 m3 · h–1. The air lift pump efficiency η decreased with rising mixture of water and sand head.
